Autumn Wildfires in California Threaten Home Owners

Hello fellow California Homeowners,

The colors are beginning to fade on some of our flowers and trees to bring in the autumn season. The wildfire season is now behind us! Or is it?

Thus, we are here to inform you that the potential for wildfires is unfortunately not over for us yet. Based on stats released by Cal Fire:

  • California has experienced a 10% increase this year over our last 5-year average, burning almost 3 times as many acres over the same time period.
  • 11 of the top 20 largest wildfires in our state’s history have occurred in the from late August through early December. We are nearly as susceptible to a major fire now as in other parts of the year.

How to Keep Your Home Protected

Therefore, we at JLI Agency strongly urge you to review your Homeowner’s Insurance policy if you have not updated it in the last 3 years. The value of homes and their replacement costs have gone up with rise in market prices. Therefore, if it has been over 3 years since your last review, your home insurance policy may fall short of what it takes to rebuild your home in the event of a major fire. Unfortunately, a family known to our agency living in Alpine, CA (a rural San Diego County town), was left devastated in the most recent major fires when their home was burned completely to the ground. Sadly these events happen more frequently than we would like to see, but it is a real threat of owning a home in beautiful California.

This threat applies if you live in Southern California, Los Angeles, or San Diego counties. This applies to those of you in the inland valleys. And this most certainly applies to our friends in Northern California (Oakland, Sacramento). Please remember to keep your home and auto insurance policies up to par on a bi-annual basis. If you would like a free review of your current Home Insurance policy, we’d be glad to help. IF you’d like a free estimate to see how we can save save you money, please do not hesitate to call us at (858) 356-2928 or set up an appointment with us to do so.

Important Tips

Here are few tips to prepare in case of a major fire near you:

  • Set an emergency plan with your family in the event of a major disaster.
  • Take only necessary items and irreplaceable things such as old family albums or heirlooms.
  • Have emergency food supplies such as non-perishable goods like canned food and water ready.
  • Remember that your family’s safety is priority #1, so please leave behind anything that can be replaced. It is not worth risking the safety of everyone involved.
  • Review your Home Insurance policy to ensure your family’s future

If you ever find yourself in a disaster situation, please reach out to our office if you need help. Our customers our deeply important to us and we will do our best to ensure that you and your family can get to a safe location. Again, if you should ever have any questions our phone number (858) 356-2928. We are here to help our neighbors!
